The Black Forest ("Der Schwarzwald") in southwestern Germany is the home of the Cuckoo Clock (Kuckucksuhr), invented inside the region within the 17th century. The lengthy, harsh winters within the Schwarzwald in the course of that time meant men and women spent long hours inside their homes, when they required both some thing to do to pass the time and an extra source of income to supplement their function inside the local mines. The largely forested location surrounding them inspired them to begin producing wooden crafts. Among the goods they created were nutcrackers ("Nussknackers"), incense burners ("Smoking Men" or R?ucherm?nner), and clocks that mimicked the cry of the cuckoo bird.

Domenico Martinelli an ordained preist (1669) was the author of a book on elementary clock which bore the title "Horologi Elementari". In this book Domenico advocates using the call of the cuckoo to designate the hours. At that time the mechanics of a working cuckoo clock was already known, and any clockmaker who could also ready would comprehend that it was both practical and advantageous to have the cuckoo sound off the hours. Consequently cuckoo clocks began appearing in areas that had not previously been recognized for their clock making. It would be a few additional decades prior to Cuckoo Clocks began appearing inside the Black Forest.

Worshipping Idols, statues yet not acknowledging, after all these are all rocks and stones?

While performing Hajj and Umrah it is one of the rukins to kiss Sang-e-Aswat (Black Stone) which is said to have come from Heaven. It is also a duty to stone Satan (Shaitan). When you perform these two acts only then your Hajj & Umrah may be accepted. That is the belief and preachings by scholars. Kissing a stone and stoning a rock are fundamental acts for the pilgramage. Every Muslim has a wish to kiss the barrier of the grave of Prophet Mohammad which is made of Marble, some people do Sajda (bow their forehead) in front of the grave, although it is forbidden in Islam not to offer Sajda but to Allah (God); yet people do it. Khana Kaaba, the covered walls, being the centre of Islam to which direction Muslims pray, is also made of stones. Prophet Mohammad wore a stone called Chalcedony, a form of Agate, Arabs call it "Aquique", not sure whether it was a ring or necklace; some claim it was a 'seal' inscribed with his name, the other way round. Depending on stones why accuse others?

the kaabah is just a placemark where all muslim face when praying..worshipping idols? i think theres a jesus statue in churches and not jesus only theres the mary statue and other saints and yet you dare accused muslim to worship idols? don try to deny this i know that christians worship these idols they stand infront of jesus statue and then pray to him...can you give any excuses to say otherwise? i know about this matter long time ago but i didnt bring up this question to R&S coz i respect the christians.

Clocks would be made inside the winter, and inside the spring, clock salesmen (Uhrschleppers) would take them all over Europe. In 1712, Friedrich Dilger went to France to study clock making, and brought back to Germany a wealth of new suggestions. Soon following, clocks became quite elaborate, and were often decorated with moving figures including roosters crowing and people dancing. "Time is gold" as the saying goes and so are clocks like the Round Agate Rock you will see on this page. The value of time imprinted on the clocks produced.

In 1738, Anton Ketterer added a cuckoo bird to his clocks, and concept rapidly spread. Cuckoo clock making became a highly specialized craft with different artisans generating distinctive parts of the clock. A pendulum was now used as opposed to the old technique, and new innovations were always taking place. Styles of Cuckoo Clocks Each and every clock had its own unique style, but particular fundamental styles emerged. By the mid 1800's, two styles predominated: the framed clock along with the railway home. The framed clock consisted of a wooden frame and painted inner section where the clock face could be attached. It was usually painted with Black Forest scenes and had the cuckoo located in the upper section of the clock. The railway home style was shaped like a house and was often decorated with grape vines, ivy, flowers, or animals.
